WOODSIDE HOME // BEFORE + AFTER

Our vision started the summer of 2019. We stumbled across this home and it had great structural bones. The home was built by a local architect and we considered ourselves lucky to be able to have access to the drawings as we knew we wanted to make some slight changes. The house was built so well! We removed the carpet and popcorn ceilings ourselves to save labor costs and lived in the home a full year before we decided on any layout changes.

For the entry way we removed the small coat closet to allow space for a wall to extend from the front door that would provide privacy for the powder bathroom. The opposite wall we opened it up with a large archway allowing more light and better access to the formal dining. When you walked into the home you were able to see straight through to the living area and back deck. We added a wall that created individual rooms all while still being “open”

Opening up the previous formal dining space and adding a wall to the living space helped create the perfect nook that I designed for a dry bar.

The living area is a longer but more narrow space that I have divided into three areas. We have a comfortable lounging space with a tv, a fireplace sitting area, and then a breakfast nook right off the kitchen peninsula where there’s also enough seating for our family.

I don’t have much to say about the fireplace. It was an eyesore.

The office only received paint and new flooring.

I think I will let the photos for the kitchen speak for themselves. Right before demo day, my in-laws were visiting and my mother-in-law decided to keep all the cabinet doors. They are currently building a home in Sierra Leone and she explained that wood craftsmanship is hard to find over there as the builders are more masters in masonry. So it’d actually be cheaper to ship these over opposed to finding someone to make kitchen cabinet doors. The base of their cabinets will be a plaster look with these wood door fronts.

The laundry room I literally cut it in half. We added a wall so that the other side could be the walk-in pantry accessible via the kitchen. In the laundry room area we added a small wall to house a built-in for coats etc, right when you enter from the garage. I wanted this space to be simple and small.

the end.
